atmosfair has expanded its groundbreaking project “Solar Power for Rural Regions in Nigeria” to the Dessa region.

Working alongside PowerGen Renewable Energy Nigeria Limited, a leading company in renewable energy in Nigeria, atmosfair originally launched the solar project to provide over 2,000 customers in Toto, Nasarawa State, with access to clean, reliable, and affordable electricity. The African Solar Industry Association awarded the solar-hybrid mini-grid in Toto as the Mini-Grid of the Year 2023, making it a beacon project and an inspiring example for similar projects across Nigeria.

The solar installation in Toto, Nasarawa State, provides the local population with access to clean, reliable, and affordable electricity.

Through the project expansion into the Dessa region, we will now reliably provide new households and businesses, as well as the community school and the community hospital, with solar power. In addition to sustainable energy supply, the expansion also creates new jobs in the region, particularly in the construction and security sectors.

To ensure that our project is positively received by the local population and that we consider the needs of the community, we recently held a comprehensive stakeholder consultation. We invited representatives from politics, non-governmental organizations, businesses, as well as individuals to voice their opinions and concerns. We are pleased that the project has received broad approval, paving the way for its further expansion.

Representatives from politics, non-governmental organizations, and businesses, as well as private individuals are participating in the local stakeholder consultation in Dessa.

This is another step forward on our journey to bring clean energy to rural regions of Nigeria. Would you like to contribute to building and expanding renewable energy in the Global South? Donate here and help us implement more transformative projects like this solar project in Nigeria.
