In the long term, both air travel and global shipping will only become climate-compatible if we succeed in replacing today’s fossil fuels with carbon-neutral alternatives.
Producing these alternative fuels is only economically viable at an industrial scale. However, the investment needed to scale up production has so far been lacking, partly because the technologies are not yet fully mature.
Together with our sister company Solarbelt, we are committed to developing these alternatives and addressing technological bottlenecks. We are developing test and demonstration projects to lay the essential foundations for the industrial production of climate-compatible fuels. In doing so, we are focusing primarily on power-to-liquid and biomass-to-liquid processes.
To ensure that the production of these fuels does not harm the climate at all, we have developed the atmosfair fairfuel standard as a voluntary quality framework for synthetic fuels. It sets out environmental and social requirements for production processes, energy supply, and CO₂ sources to ensure that PtL fuels genuinely contribute to the transition away from fossil fuels. atmosfair pioneered this standard before the European Union adopted the Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) methodology for certifying PtL fuels. Furthermore, the fairfuel standard goes beyond the RFNBO guidelines.
You can support our work in this area through donations, thereby promoting innovation, technological development, and the long-term transition away from fossil fuels.
