Berlin, September 2025. Hands-on climate protection at atmosfair’s second open house day in Berlin: Donors and interested visitors gained insights into atmosfair’s projects and engaged in discussions with the atmosfair team.
A highlight of the event was a live video call to atmosfair’s factory for efficient Save 80 cookstoves in Rwanda. Broadcasting from Kigali, manager Christin Muhongerwa and production manager Joseph Msabimann demonstrated how stainless steel sheets are transformed through several production steps into durable, efficient cooking stoves. The Save 80 cookstoves consume 80% less firewood than typical cooking facilities — hence their name.

Frequent power outages in Rwanda present unique challenges for factory operations: alongside electric equipment, manual steel shears must be kept on standby. Additionally, compressed air tanks power the pneumatic punching tables, allowing work to continue for several hours even during blackouts. Fortunately, during our live connection, both power and internet remained stable, giving our Berlin guests direct insight into one of atmosfair’s many climate protection projects.

The Rwanda production is based on prototypes developed in Berlin. A tour through atmosfair’s Berlin workshop showcased hands-on equipment: punching tables, steel shears, and bending apparatus, as well as various measuring instruments used to test and refine prototypes for our efficient cookstoves.
In brief presentations, atmosfair project managers introduced additional climate protection initiatives — from solar-powered drinking water systems to the construction and repair of biogas plants, and optimized biochar production. In extensive follow-up discussion, they provided in-depth answers to our guests’ questions.

Even better than offsetting emissions is preventing them altogether. Using the atmosfair CO₂ event calculator, visitors could experience how to organize both small and large events in the most climate-friendly way possible.
Our electrically powered efficient cookstoves — which we deploy alongside wood-fired Save 80 stoves in our projects — were put to practical use: guests enjoyed Tanzania’s national dish, Makande, prepared completely emission-free. A small piece of Africa, right in the heart of Berlin-Neukölln.
